About LANES
Established in 1992, Liquid Assets New England Swimming (LANES) is Boston's only masters swim team for New England's gay and lesbian community and their friends.
Team members span a range of ages and abilities from avid competitor to fitness swimmer. Some members have been swimming since high school, while others are relatively new to the sport. Whatever your level of experience or aspiration, LANES is a uniquely supportive and welcoming team designed to foster well being, health and positive social experiences through sport and competition.
LANES practices at the South End Fitness Center located on the campus of Boston Medical Center in the heart of Boston's South End neighborhood. The team currently offers five 75 minute practices per week (see our practice schedule for additional details). While all practices are optional, we encourage members to practice with us as often as they can. All workouts are coached in a masters' style environment which focuses on interval and stroke training. In an average practice, you will swim anywhere from 2,000-3,500 yards depending on your ability and the designated workout.
Many of our members participate in International Gay and Lesbian Aquatics (IGLA) and New England Masters swim meets held across North America (including Canada) and some international locales (e.g., 2010 Gay Games in Cologne). We also have a strong presence each year at the Provincetown Harbor Swim for Life, a benefit for AIDS, woman's health and outer Cape community.
